I share this tip every few months as I receive so many random connection requests from people I don’t know. If more people took the time to personalise their invitations, I think more would be accepted! Personalising outbound connection requests takes an extra 30 seconds but so few LinkedIn users take that time to do so.
On the desktop version of LinkedIn, personalisation is very straight-forward. Simply click on the person’s profile, click Connect, click on Add a note, then write a short personalised message (you have a 300-character capacity, or about 5 lines). On the LinkedIn mobile app, again select the individual’s profile, click on the More menu, then Personalise Invite. It’s that simple!
